Queer Newark Oral History Project Launch

This special event was held at the Newark LGBTQ Communtity Center and featured a multimedia presentation of the Queer Newark Oral History Project's work, including a video of archival images and sound clips from interviews, and the public debut of the new website. Speakers included Darnell Moore, James Credle, June Dowell-Burton, Rodney Gilbert, Peter Savastano, Timothy Stewart-Winter, Christina Strasburger, and Whitney Strub. A reception, with refreshments from Newark vendors and music by DJ Just Love, followed the presentation.

Out in the Union: A Labor History of Queer America

Out in the Union tells the continuous story of queer American workers from the mid-1960s through 2013. Miriam Frank chronicles the evolution of labor politics with queer activism and identity formation, showing how unions began affirming the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender workers in the 1970s and 1980s.
