Oral History Workshop with Timothy Stewart-Winter

The Queer Newark Oral History Project is offering a free oral history workshop led by Timothy Stewart-Winter (bio below) on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. The workshop will run from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, and will cover key issues such as: How does one plan an oral history project? What are some of the best practices for formulating interview questions? How does one identify a narrator? What are some of the ethical considerations that oral historians face when creating oral history projects? This will be an interactive, hands-on workshop.

Sponsored by the Queer Newark Oral History Project, Newark Gay Pride, Newark LGBTQ Community Center, Unity Fellowship Church NewArk, and the Rutgers University-Newark History Department, African American and African Studies Department, Women’s and Gender Studies Program, and American Studies Graduate Program.
Queer Newark Oral History Project Launch

This special event was held at the Newark LGBTQ Communtity Center and featured a multimedia presentation of the Queer Newark Oral History Project's work, including a video of archival images and sound clips from interviews, and the public debut of the new website. Speakers included Darnell Moore, James Credle, June Dowell-Burton, Rodney Gilbert, Peter Savastano, Timothy Stewart-Winter, Christina Strasburger, and Whitney Strub. A reception, with refreshments from Newark vendors and music by DJ Just Love, followed the presentation.
